These instructions are designed as a general installation guide for BHD Lighting 12V lighting kits and controllers.

READ THE ENTIRE GUIDE BEFORE BEGINNING INSTALLATION.

1. REQUIRED FIRST STEP — TEST YOUR COMPLETE KIT BEFORE INSTALLATION

STOP! BEFORE MOUNTING ANY LIGHTS, TEST YOUR ENTIRE BHD LIGHTING SYSTEM.

Every BHD Lighting product is tested and inspected at BHD Home Base before leaving our facility. However, we strongly recommend that every customer perform a complete system test immediately upon receiving their order and BEFORE permanently mounting or installing any lighting.

This allows you to confirm that all components are functioning properly after shipping and makes troubleshooting significantly easier if an issue is discovered.

HOW TO PERFORM YOUR PRE-INSTALLATION TEST

Before permanently mounting your lights:

1. Unpack your entire BHD Lighting kit and inspect all components for visible shipping damage.
2. Lay out all light pods, the controller, splitters, wiring, and connectors in a clean, dry, safe location.
3. Connect ALL light pods to their supplied BHD wiring, splitters, and controller.
4. Make sure all connector alignment arrows are properly aligned and all connections are fully seated.
5. Connect the RED fused power wire directly to the positive (+) battery terminal.
6. Connect the BLACK ground wire directly to the negative (–) battery terminal.
7. Turn on the controller and test EVERY light pod.
8. Test every available color, lighting mode, and function supported by your kit.
9. If equipped with switchback functionality, test white, amber, and both colors simultaneously, along with the applicable turn-signal functions.
10. If equipped with a white override function, verify that the override operates correctly.
11. Check that all pods operate consistently and inspect the controller, wiring, and connectors for any abnormal heating or other issues.
12. Once everything has passed testing, disconnect power and proceed with permanent installation.

DO NOT permanently mount your lighting until you have verified that your complete kit operates correctly.

IF YOU DISCOVER AN ISSUE DURING TESTING

If a light pod, controller, splitter, wire, or other component does not function properly, contact BHD Lighting BEFORE permanently installing the system.

Our team will help you troubleshoot and narrow down the issue to determine whether a component was affected during shipping or has another qualifying problem.

Do not cut or modify BHD wiring, increase fuse sizes, bypass safety devices, or continue operating a system that is overheating or repeatedly blowing fuses.

WHY WE REQUIRE PRE-INSTALLATION TESTING

Testing your complete kit before mounting allows you to identify potential problems while every component is easily accessible.

This helps prevent unnecessary removal of installed lighting and makes it easier for BHD to diagnose and address an issue.

BHD Lighting tests and inspects products before shipment, but completing your own pre-installation test provides an additional opportunity to identify issues before permanent installation.

IMPORTANT WARRANTY NOTICE: Customers are required to cooperate with reasonable troubleshooting to identify affected components before warranty replacements are approved. BHD warranties qualifying individual components, including pods, controllers, splitters, and wiring, rather than automatically replacing entire kits.

Failure to perform a pre-installation test does not automatically void applicable warranty coverage. However, damage caused by improper installation, unauthorized modifications, or operation outside product specifications is not covered.

2. BEFORE INSTALLATION

12-VOLT SYSTEMS ONLY.

Before installing your BHD Lighting kit:

• Disconnect power before making connections.
• Plan the location of your controller, wiring, and lights before mounting anything permanently.
• Keep the controller and wiring away from excessive heat, moving parts, sharp edges, and other areas that could damage the wiring.
• Make sure all wiring is properly secured after installation.
• DO NOT cut, shorten, splice, modify, or change BHD wiring.
• DO NOT change the supplied fuse size.

Some connectors may have slightly distorted plastic from shipping. Minor cosmetic distortion that does not affect connector fit, sealing, or operation may be normal.

Do not use connectors with cracked housings, damaged pins, exposed conductors, or signs of overheating. Contact BHD if a connector appears damaged or does not fit properly.

3. MAIN POWER CONNECTIONS

Your BHD controller has two main power connections:

🔴 RED — POSITIVE (+)

Connect the RED power wire directly to the positive (+) battery terminal.

The positive power wire is protected by an inline fuse.

DO NOT remove, bypass, or increase the supplied fuse size.

If the fuse blows, replace it ONLY with the same size and type of fuse after checking for an obvious fault.

If the replacement fuse also blows, discontinue use and contact BHD Lighting.

⚫ BLACK — GROUND (–)

Connect the BLACK ground wire directly to the negative (–) battery terminal.

BHD recommends and requires a direct battery ground unless you have contacted BHD and received approval to use another grounding location.

Do not automatically use the frame, body, factory ground, or another truck ground.

Only the RED positive power wire is fused.

5. CONNECTING YOUR LIGHTS

The lighting outputs from the BHD controller connect to your light pods using the supplied BHD connectors.

Each connector has alignment arrows.

THE ARROWS MUST LINE UP WITH EACH OTHER.

Before connecting:

1. Find the arrow on each side of the connector.
2. Rotate the connectors until the arrows face each other.
3. Carefully push the connectors together.
4. Secure the connector completely.
5. Do not force a connector together if the arrows are not aligned.

Your actual kit may have more or fewer lighting connections depending on the controller and kit purchased.

Never cut or modify BHD connectors or wiring to make a connection fit.

6. OPTIONAL WHITE, GREEN & YELLOW WIRES

Some BHD kits include additional:

⚪ WHITE

🟢 GREEN

🟡 YELLOW

Not every kit will use these wires.

⚪ WHITE — SWITCH OVERRIDE

The WHITE wire is used for the switch override function.

This allows supported kits to activate the override function through an external switch or appropriate 12V signal.

🟢 GREEN & 🟡 YELLOW — SWITCHBACK / TURN SIGNALS

The GREEN and YELLOW wires are used on supported switchback lighting systems for the vehicle's left and right turn-signal functions.

For most installations, BHD recommends accessing the turn-signal wiring behind the headlights.

Connect each signal wire to the appropriate vehicle turn-signal circuit.

Verify which vehicle wire controls the left and right turn signals BEFORE making the connection.

Vehicle wiring colors vary between makes, models, years, and trim levels. Do not assume a vehicle wire's function based only on its color.

Verify that the selected circuit supplies the correct signal and is compatible with the controller. Some vehicles may require an appropriate signal interface.

Do not connect optional signal wires to an unknown circuit. Contact BHD if you are unsure.

Recommended turn-signal connection location: Behind the headlights.

8. BEFORE POWERING THE SYSTEM ON

Before reconnecting or applying power, check the entire installation.

Make sure:

• RED is connected to battery positive (+).
• BLACK is connected directly to battery negative (–).
• The correct supplied fuse is installed.
• All connector arrows are properly aligned.
• All connectors are fully seated.
• No wiring has been cut or modified.
• Wiring is secured away from sharp edges.
• Wiring is away from exhaust and other high-heat areas.
• Wiring cannot contact tires, suspension, steering, driveshafts, or other moving components.
• Optional signal wires are connected to the correct circuits if being used.
• No connectors or wires show signs of damage.

9. POWER ON & TEST

Once everything has been checked:

1. Apply power to the system.
2. Turn on the BHD controller.
3. Test all installed lights.
4. Check each pod for proper operation.
5. Test every available color and lighting mode.
6. If equipped, test the white override function.
7. If equipped with switchback functionality, test the left turn signal.
8. Test the right turn signal.
9. Verify that the correct side responds to each turn signal.
10. If supported, test white and amber simultaneously.
11. Inspect all wiring and connections one final time.

If any component becomes abnormally hot, a fuse blows, or the system operates unexpectedly, discontinue use and contact BHD Lighting.

10. IMPORTANT — IF A FUSE BLOWS

STOP.

Do not install a larger fuse.

If your BHD kit was supplied with a specific fuse size, that is the fuse size that must remain in the system.

NEVER:

• Increase the fuse amperage.
• Bypass the fuse.
• Install foil or another object in place of the fuse.
• Hardwire around the fuse.
• Continue replacing blown fuses without determining why they are blowing.
• Continue operating a system with overheating wires or connectors.

If the supplied fuse continues to blow, discontinue use and contact BHD Lighting for assistance.

BHD may request reasonable troubleshooting to help identify whether the issue is related to a pod, controller, wiring harness, splitter, connector, installation, or another component.

Do not attempt troubleshooting that requires unsafe electrical work.

11. DO NOT MODIFY BHD WIRING

BHD wiring and connectors are designed to work as a complete system.

Do not:

• Cut BHD wires.
• Shorten BHD wires.
• Extend BHD wires.
• Replace BHD connectors.
• Remove connectors.
• Change wire sizes.
• Bypass supplied wiring.
• Modify controller wiring.

If your installation requires something different, contact BHD before making the modification.

Unauthorized modifications may affect warranty coverage when they cause or contribute to product damage or failure.

12. WARRANTY TROUBLESHOOTING & COMPONENT REPLACEMENT

BHD Lighting stands behind qualifying products under its applicable warranty.

However, submitting a warranty claim does not automatically authorize shipment of replacement products.

Customers are required to participate in reasonable troubleshooting to identify and narrow down the affected component before a warranty replacement is approved or shipped.

Depending on the issue, BHD may request:

• Photos or videos showing the problem.
• Photos of the installation and wiring.
• Confirmation of proper battery connections.
• Testing individual light pods.
• Testing individual splitter branches.
• Swapping compatible components when safe.
• Inspecting connectors, fuses, and wiring.
• Returning an affected component for inspection when necessary.

Customers are not required to perform unsafe electrical work or continue operating equipment under dangerous conditions.

INDIVIDUAL COMPONENT COVERAGE

BHD warranties qualifying individual components—not automatically entire kits.

If a qualifying pod, controller, splitter, wire, harness, connector, or other covered component fails, BHD will determine the appropriate repair or replacement.

A failure affecting one component does not automatically qualify an entire kit for replacement.

If multiple components experience qualifying failures, the affected qualifying components may be repaired or replaced as needed.

A complete kit will only be replaced when BHD determines that the complete kit has experienced a qualifying covered failure or that complete-kit replacement is reasonably necessary to fulfill the applicable warranty.

OUR WARRANTY PROMISE

Rest assured: once proper installation has been reasonably verified and a qualifying covered failure or damage has been established, BHD Lighting will honor the applicable warranty.

Our troubleshooting process exists to identify the correct replacement and get your lighting system operating properly—not to avoid legitimate warranty obligations.

13. FINAL INSTALLATION CHECK

Before considering the installation complete:

☐ Complete kit tested before permanent mounting

☐ Every light pod tested

☐ All available colors and modes tested

☐ Battery positive connection secure

☐ Battery negative connection secure

☐ Correct fuse installed

☐ Controller securely mounted

☐ Connector arrows aligned

☐ All connectors fully seated

☐ Wiring secured

☐ No wiring near moving parts

☐ No wiring touching high-heat components

☐ No BHD wiring modified

☐ All lights tested after installation

☐ Override tested if equipped

☐ Left/right switchback functions tested if equipped

☐ No abnormal heating or electrical issues observed
